Sweating Is Good For You!

More than 120 different toxins can be eliminated through perspiration. Everything - from heavy metals, steroids, and inflammatory compounds. Sweating is a simple yet key way to cleanse your body of pollutants, chemicals, and other dangerous substances.

The skin is the largest organ in the body and is one of the most important organs involved in detoxification and elimination. Your skin works two-fold. It serve as an actual barrier against some environmental toxins and has a concentrated source of antioxidants that protects it from toxic oxidative compounds. A whopping 3 million to 4 million sweat glands reside in your skin. These are key routes of toxin elimination.

When foreign chemical compounds (AKA xenobiotics) enter our bodies, they are detoxified by enzymes, which are found throughout the body, especially in the liver and skin. When enzymes detoxify these foreign compounds, the remaining leftover compounds need to be flushed from the body. Some are eliminated in urine or feces, others through exhalation (lungs), and some through sweating (skin). However, some foreign compounds can just be eliminated through the skin and don't need enzymes to detoxify them first. This is an extremely efficient way to clear toxins out of the body.

Without routes of elimination, toxins build up internally and cause oxidative damage, which harm cells, cause DNA mutations, and contribute to the development of many chronic diseases - cancer cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and dementia. This is how a sedentary lifestyle is linked to an increased risk of developing chronic diseases. When you are sedentary, you don't sweat!

To increase sweat, you can vigorously exercise or exposure yourself t hot environments such as saunas. Daily sweating can help you to maintain gentle and continuous detoxification. Even sweating for as little as 15 minutes a day can significantly reduce our bodies’ toxic burden. Keep in mind, it is important to wash your skin after perspiring so you don’t inadvertently reabsorb the toxins we have just eliminated.

Sweat is critical to our long-term health and vitality, so next time you are glistening or even dripping with perspiration, smile and think about all of the toxins that are leaving your body.
